Always start with the sky and move forward on step at a time.  Everything far away is "pastel" and as you get closer things get "darker, darkest".  Now you have depth.

I never get tired of painting. Even though I am painting something I have done before, it always comes out different. The picture on the top right is one version and the picture on the bottom right is the same painting done on a different day. Like walking cross a river … You never step into the same river twice, it is always a new adventure. If there is something I don’t like about a picture, I just make a mental note to change that thing next time. I would rather paint the whole picture over to change it than to start to fiddle with it after it’s done.
